The Milk Snakes are famous for their coloring bands. The colored bands of Milk Snake look very similar to that of deadly Coral Snakes and Copperhead Snakes. But, The Milk Snakes are non poisonous and non dangerous snakes of America. The Milk Snakes have prominently bright colored  band pattern.

Milk Snakes offer no threat to humans. In fact, they are popular pets easily bred in captivity.

The Milk Snake is a species from genus Lampropeltis. The species Milk Snake is known to have about 24 subspecies.The name is appropriate for the genus, which is known for its well-defined, glossy scales.

The Milk snake are around 20 to 65 inches long. The body is covered with 20 to 24 rows of smooth and shiny scales. The scales give the glossy and stunning color to these Snakes.The bright colors of bands over the body  vary from white, red, black, orange and yellow. The Edge of dark bands is mostly of black color.Many of them have a light-colored Y or V shape on their necks.

The milk snakes are found over a wide range from North America to Central America and  North part of South America. The Milk Snakes hide under rocks, woods and in the animal shelter.

The Milk Snakes are mostly solitary and nocturnal, hunt the prey in the  cooler hours, mostly at night.On hot days, milk snakes usually stay under rocks, logs or in burrows. The Milk Snakes grab the prey with their inwardly curved teeth and constrict the prey by coiling around it. They eat small mammals; mice, rats and other rodents,eggs of birds and snakes, lizards,  frogs, earthworms.

Milk snakes are oviparous, meaning that the mother lays eggs. She’ll lay between two and 17 eggs about 30 days after copulation.. The Female attracts the male by releasing pheromone. The copulation occurs for a longer duration. The hatchlings are 6 to 7 inches long.
